The striker market this summer has turned into a full-on scramble.

Clubs aren’t just looking for scorers — they’re searching for long-term solutions.

Young, athletic, high-upside No.

9s who can lead the line for the next five to six years are in short supply.

And that’s what makes this particular battle interesting.

A few clubs — Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Newcastle — are all circling the same kind of player.

Fast, tall, technically gifted, and already tested in European competition.

Each club has their own reason for acting now.

Some have injury-prone strikers.

Others want to plan beyond aging stars.

Some, like Liverpool, already made a big bid and are waiting for a response.

And in the middle of all this, Benjamin Sesko’s name keeps coming up.

According to The Athletic, RB Leipzig have rejected an €80million bid from Newcastle United for striker Benjamin Sesko.

The offer was made up of €75m up front and another €5m in potential add-ons.

But the German side want more — not just money, but structure.

They had set an asking price of €75m plus add-ons and a sell-on clause.

Newcastle’s bid didn’t include the latter, and Leipzig turned it down.

Newcastle are pushing hard due to the situation with Alexander Isak.

The Swedish striker wants to leave this summer.

He even skipped the club’s preseason tour of Asia.

Newcastle said it was because of a “minor thigh problem,” but sources, speaking anonymously as they were not authorised to do so publicly, indicated that the forward favoured being omitted with his future uncertain.

Liverpool have already made a move for Isak — a formal £110m bid, which Newcastle rejected.

Still, the Premier League champions retain a strong interest in the 25-year-old.

That move could easily be revisited if things change.

Meanwhile, Sesko is keeping his options open.

Manchester United are also interested, and he hasn’t picked a club yet.

Arsenal looked at him but chose Viktor Gyokeres instead.

Chelsea have long admired him but went for Liam Delap and Joao Pedro earlier this summer.

Sesko’s contract runs until 2029.

When he renewed it last year, it came with a gentleman’s agreement that would allow him to leave for the right project.

His old contract had a €65m release clause.

That number is no longer valid.

He had a solid season in 2024-25 but not a standout one.

He scored 13 Bundesliga goals — one less than the previous year — despite playing 900 more minutes.

Sesko did score some big goals, including one against Bayern Munich at home.

But Leipzig had a poor year overall.

They sacked Marco Rose in March and finished at their lowest Bundesliga position since promotion in 2016.

In Europe, they only won one of eight Champions League games.

Still, this is a 22-year-old striker who has already scored 16 goals in 41 games for Slovenia and played at Euro 2024.

He’s in demand — and Liverpool are watching every move.
